Cincinnati Automation built a benchtop inspection unit for a customer to check the width and length of a very specific product for the healthcare industry. This machine is used in a clean room and is operator loaded to inspect for dimensional features.
The inspection system included one 5MP Keyence color camera and an XG controller. It also incorporated a touch button trigger and specialty machined and coated metal inspection surface plate for handling the parts. The parts are only a few millimeters long and half a millimeter wide, so a very specialize small field of view, macro lens was used to increase the resolution to about .0022mm/pixel. Similar systems could be designed with even higher resolution using a 21MP camera.
