Highlighted Project of the Week: Cincinnati Automation Vision Guided Robotic Pick and Place System

Cincinnati Automation built a Vision Guided Robotic Pick and Place system for a multinational manufacturing company to help speed up their assembly process. The customer, of Japanese origin, has been building their machines overseas and having them shipped to their North American facility but was becoming weary of the extended lead times. Cincinnati Automation, with years of experience in both vision and robotics, was able to supply for them a machine that met the operation and quality of existing machines they had been using for years.

The system consisted of a Cognex In-sight Vision System paired with an IAI SCARA robot to locate, pick, and place their part in space on a conveyor and place it into the next machine in the production process. The system was controlled by a Mitsubishi PLC and had custom framing, safety switches, conveyors, and associated tooling. The system is installed and running at the customer facility and is freeing up an operator to work on a more complex task. With the system installed, the customer now has an American supplier who can build their automation and inspection equipment instead of being forced to source from overseas.

The concept of vision guided robotics can be applied to many product lines across industry. For questions about similar projects or potential applications send Cincinnati Automation an email to info@cincinnatiautomation.com
