The world is turning to automation as an efficiency solution and it’s taking over most of the tasks we have; whether they be at home or at work. Found within objects that range from a calculator to your car, automation is benefiting us on a daily basis and we barely acknowledge it.

We cannot grasp the degree of impact automation has on us. This even includes your morning paper and the coffee you drink with it. This is because all of this would be extremely difficult as well as expensive to manage otherwise. Currently, the most impact automation has had has been on the automotive industries.

Automation isn’t completely a novel process. This foregone era was one of partial automation. Different components of cars were being cut, polished, checked and tested to latching parts on to the car chassis - an amazing and innovative application of automation in this previous era.

The New Era

Now, we have managed to break into a new era of complete automation, with products like self-driving cars and a fully automated line of car manufacturing. It is our responsibility to learn about these processes in order to appreciate this era and its technology properly. We have to start properly employing automation to help us rather than causing burdensome costs.

Essentially, we can see how many parts of a vehicle are already fully analyzed via automation. The next step would probably be cutting, assessing, fabricating, marking, attaching and adding the machines making it a fully-automated manufacturing and testing plant. Admittedly this is very cool, but the high degree of automation is rather scary to think about too.

Visions for Vehicle Manufacturing

Imagine having a car developed and ready in a matter of minutes and as per the specifications stated with a customized order. Imagine having the convenience of ordering a car from your phone and then having it ready by the time you reach the production line the next day.

Maybe, the production won’t get your car order ready by tomorrow but the possibility of this happening is not that far from now when this would become a reality. Current processes already manage to produce a car within 17 hours on average, thanks to Toyota. To get an idea of this speed, take into account that Rolls Royce produces only 500 luxury cars every year.
