Tube Inspection System
This automated inspection system was designed to take a range of tube parts directly off the customer’s burr master machine and inspect each end for damage and dimensional issues.
The system was installed inline with the burr master and would catch the parts as they exited the deburring station. A series of 2 Keyence 2MP cameras and 2 Keyence 5MP cameras connected to an XG-X controller would look at the ends from above and the side to check for overall length and end damage. The cameras were fix-mounted on the left and mounted on a rail system on the right that allowed the operator to open the front doors and slide the system to a specified length from 5” to 79”. Good parts continued out the front of the machine and bad parts were dropped into a reject bin.
The system was built from an extruded aluminum frame for flexibility and adjustability. All controls were housed in a side mounted N-12 control enclosure with PLC controls and an HMI for part number selection and data readout. Pneumatic cylinders controlled part clamping, inspection, and passing/failing.
